WATCH | What we know: Conor McGregor arrested in Miami

Conor McGregor has been released from jail following his arrest last night on charges of robbery and criminal damage in Miami.

The Irish fighter allegedly smashed a fan's phone outside a Miami beach hotel.

mcgregor arrested Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department.

He was taken into custody yesterday at 5:56 pm local time under charges of, "strong-armed robbery, a second-degree felony, and criminal mischief, a third-degree felony," according to documents seen by MMA Fighting.

The UFC star was released shortly before 11:00pm local time, following the payment of a $12,500 bond.

During the incident he allegedly smacked the phone of a fan trying to take a picture of him onto the ground, before stamping on the device.

Past incidents

According to ESPN's Ariel Helwani, this case will not impact on the terms agreed following his previous arrest in New York in April 2018.

"As was reported last week, McGregor completed his community service in NY recently stemming from the incident at Barclays Center. His case is officially closed there, per an NYPD source, so whatever comes of this incident in Miami would not affect his plea deal in NY," the MMA journalist tweeted.

McGregor's lawyer issued a brief statement following the incident: “Last evening Conor McGregor was involved in a minor altercation over a cell phone that resulted in a call to law enforcement. Mr. McGregor appreciates the response of law enforcement and pledges his full cooperation.”

Miami authorities have confirmed the Dubliners release, the next step will be a court appearance, the date for which is yet to be set.

It is 5 months since the former two-weight champion competed in the UFC, on that occasion he suffered a fourth-round submission loss at the hands of Russia's Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It remains unclear when he intends to return to competitive action.
