"Outcry towards Bielsa bordering on almost racist"

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has been in the eye of the storm for the past week.

The eccentric Argentine coach was at the centre of last week's Spygate saga ahead of their clash with Derby County.

It's a game they won 2-0 but it's what happened pre-match that garnered notoriety.

Bielsa had admitted that he'd sent a member of his backroom team to keep a watchful eye on Derby's training.

There has been an enormous outcry in English football. But has it been over-blown?

"Bordering on racist"

"Look, as far as I'm concerned, he's done nothing wrong," he said.

"I think some of the outcry against him is because of where he comes from. To be quite honest, it's bordering on almost racist some of the stuff that's being said about him.

"'That sort of thing should be left in Argentina etc'. Well, I'm not being funny but what he's done, for him, is best practice across Europe - in Spain, Italy and France. But also in South America and across South America.

"So in that sense, for me, how can we judge a man who has brought so much good with him and is a man of integrity? How can we judge him by the so-called moral behaviour and moral code that we have in England called fair play when he hasn't been party to it for all of his life?"
