Daryl Horgan explains how Martin O'Neill chat prompted Hibs move

After 18 months at Preston North End in the English Championship, Ireland winger Daryl Horgan will be making a fresh start in Scotland with Hibernian.

The former Dundalk footballer made 40 league appearances for Preston, scoring three goals, but will now try to bounce back at Hibs in the Scottish top flight.

He joined our Keith Andrews Show on Thursday to discuss the decision and touched on the frustration of reduced game-time.

"It's very, very difficult. Obviously, you're coming in after games, you're doing the runs after the games, you're training on the Monday, everyone else is recovering then you're coming in Tuesday, Wednesday and you're just trying to put your best foot forward in training the whole time and do everything you can," he said.

"You're dying for anything really. Five minutes and towards the end I was just looking to get on the bench, to be a part of it. I suppose, when you really think of it, it's quite depressing nearly you know that all you want to do is just be involved and unfortunately you don't get that opportunity."

His international future was also a consideration in his decision to move away and Ireland manager Martin O'Neill had brought up the issue of game-time with him.

"I'd spoken to the manager after the US game and he said, 'Look, you need to play'. He said, 'I'm going to games, watching Preston and you're not even involved so the priority for you has to be playing games,'" said Horgan.

"So I completely understood. I'll have to play well and work hard but I spoke to the manager here at Hibs and he said there'll be opportunities if you're playing well."

The Keith Andrews Show is live every Thursday from 12.30pm on all our social channels.
