'There's no God-given right at the top' | Pat Nevin on Chelsea's future

Chelsea's future will not replicate the successes of the Abramovich era, according to Pat Nevin.

The former Chelsea player spoke on Monday's The Football Show about the potential owners of the club. The Scotsman hopes to return to some normality as the club looks to find a new owner.

"I don’t think it makes any sense for it to take months," said Nevin. "The temptation is if you rush into selling the club, you sell the wrong people.

"Don’t sell to the highest bidder, sell to the right bidder."

Last week, the UK government posed sanctions on owner Roman Abramovich as part of attempts to crack down on wealthy Russians with assets in the UK. The former defender gave his opinion on the current state of the club, and he believes it's in everyone's interest to see the club survive.

“The problem is an existential one as long as you don’t get some cash in. They’ve got other problems, but that’s not the problem now. That’s the future.

"It would be mad in terms of everyone's position. The Premier League doesn’t want that to happen.

"It should be okay, they should survive. The first thing they do is to save the cash flow.

"This isn’t optimism, it's realism. This is what's right for everyone else. I'm not convinced it serves anyone any good.

"It’s situated smack bang in the middle of west London."

Nevin also opposed the chanting of Abramovich's name by Chelsea fans at games.

“The insensitivity of it is absolutely unthinkable. Read the room? Read the world"

"It's very, very misguided. The whole planet has figured this out. Nothing else matters now, you've got to understand that now.

"Thomas Tuchel has been strong enough to stand up against it. The club have not been strong enough on it. I think they could have gone about it differently.

"I bet even Abramovich would be embarrassed by it. That's not the kind of limelight he wants."
