Watford sack manager. Again.

Watford have sacked manager Xisco Munoz.

The Spaniard leaves with the club 14th in the Premier League table having collected seven points from their opening seven games.

He was their 17th manager of the last decade.

The 1-0 defeat at Leeds yesterday was the newly promoted sides fourth in those seven league games.

A statement read: "The board feels recent performances strongly indicate a negative trend at a time when team cohesion should be visibly improving."

Munoz took charge at Vicarage Road just last December, taking over from Valdimir Ivic, and carried the club back to the top flight with a second-placed finish in the Championship last season.

The statement added: "The Hornets will always be grateful to Xisco for the part he played in securing last season's promotion and wish him well for his future career in football.

"No further club comment will be available until the imminent announcement of a new head coach."

Football writer Darren Lewis, speaking on Sky Sports, described the Hornets as "a club with no longevity".

"Surely you give a manager time to bed in," Lewis said.

"If you sack a manager seven games in then you make your job finding a replacement for him even harder.

"They've had 17 managers in the last 10 years, that's a club with no longevity - even if you do what they've asked you to do."

An announcement on a replacement will be made during the international break.
