WATCH: United's Leicester defeat hands Premier League title to City

For the third time in three seasons Manchester City are Premier League champions, and just for once they can thank neighbours United.

A much changed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer starting XI went down 2-1 to Leicester City at Old Trafford, leaving Pep Guardiola's side untouchable at the summit.

Solskjaer's selection had one eye on Thursday's rearranged meeting with Liverpool, and he'll surely be cognisant of the fact that Leicester's win has severely damaged Jurgen Klopp's dwindling Champions League ambitions.

The Norwegian handed debut Premier League starts to teenagers Amad Diallo and Anthony Elanga, but it was one of Leicester's young crop that opened the scoring.

Youri Tielemens found acres in which to graze in the inside-right channel before over-hitting a cross that appeared aimed for Jamie Vardy. But 19-year old Luke Thomas was on hand to fire past David de Gea.

However, Thomas was at fault for United's equaliser just five minutes later.

The full-back was out-witted by Diallo, who laid the ball off for Mason Greenwood. His deftness of touch bamboozled the Leicester defence giving him the chance to shoot low beyond Kasper Schmeichel.

The goals gave lie to what was a game low on quality, played by sides with bigger fish to fry in the coming days and weeks. Leicester have an FA Cup final with Chelsea on Saturday. And a fortnight from Wednesday, United will be in Gdansk playing Villareal for the Europa League.

Midway through the second half, Caglar Soyuncu's bullet header sparked joy among those in different shades of blue.

The Turkish defender rose to meet Marc Albrighton's outswinging corner to give Brendan Rodgers' side a 2-1 lead.

Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes were sent into the fray to retrieve something from the game for United, and possibly make City wait just that little bit long, but to no avail.

Leicester are now within touching distance of a Champions League return. With two games to play, they're 8-points clear of fifth-placed West Ham.

The Hammers still have three games remaining, and Liverpool four. Next week's league game with Chelsea may see nerves jangled again, but for now they can dream.

For United, the 8-year title wait will turn to 9, as they attempt to drown out the noise of the party across town.
