Tottenham give permission to Son and Bergwijn to return home

Tottenham Hotspur duo Heung-Min Son and Steven Bergwijn have both been given permission by the club to return to their home countries.

The club announced in a statement on the official Tottenham website that Son (pictured) has flown back to South Korea for 'personal reasons' while the Premier League season is stalled due to the COVID-19 outbreak

The striker is recovering from an arm fracture sustained in action against Aston Villa last month and spoke positively of a return during the week.

"I’m doing alright, doing what I can do, working hard, trying to be ready to come back as soon as I can," Son told the club website.

"I miss the feeling of playing, of course, but at this moment, football is not important. Everyone’s health is most important, and we all need to stay safe."

Son also spent time in quarantine after his most recent trip home and he added: "I was in South Korea for two weeks then back to London, another two weeks but, look, it’s so important to respect this situation.

"I was very careful and listened to the doctors. This is very important for everyone at the moment. It was tough but I had my family, so it was fine for me.”

Bergwijn has travelled to the Netherlands ahead of the impending birth of his child.

Both players will continue their individual rehabilitation and training programmes during their time away.

Meanwhile as all Premier League clubs attempt to keep their players fit for a possible return to action at the end of next month, the planned resumption of games after April 30 is not looking possible.

Reports in England have suggested that it is looking increasingly likely that the season will not resume until the summer months and that the games will have to be played behind closed doors.
