Time trial glory for Roglic as Martin loses time on Vuelta

Primoz Roglic regained the leader's red jersey after an impressive showing on stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana.

The Slovenian put his Tour de France time trial disappointment behind him by posting the fastest time at the Mirador de Ézaro.

Roglic came home a second quicker than American Will Barta, who'd surprisingly set the benchmark within the final hour of the stage.

Never likely to be his speciality, the time-trial wasn't kind to Dan Martin. The Team Israel Start-Up Nation rider was 13th on the stage, 1'17" down on Roglic.

Martin retains fourth placed on general classification, but ends the day 1'42" off the lead of the Team Jumbo-Visma star.

Richard Carapaz (Ineos Grenadiers) started the day in red, but set a time 49" slower than that of Roglic, and drops to second place.

Hugh Carthy (EF Pro Cycling) remains in contention. He posted the fourth fastest time, and ends the stage third on general classification, 47" off Roglic.

"It's just nice, it was a long time since I've won a time trial," the race leader said after the stage, "It's a super-nice day.

"I felt strong, surprisingly. I thought I'd suffer a lot more"

Roglic says the team must now retain their focus as they zero in on Madrid on the final five stages of this year's Vuelta.
