Solskjaer to remain in charge of Manchester United | Reports

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to remain in charge of Manchester United.

There has been a significant amount of speculation in the aftermath of Sunday's Premier League hammering at the hands of Liverpool.

United suffered a 5-nil defeat at Old Trafford - a result that has brought Solskjaer to the brink.

Reports on Monday indicated that the club was considering its next move.

It's believed the owners and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward were among the club figureheads discussing the managerial situation.

However, multiple reports this morning (Tuesday) indicate that they will stick with their man - for now.

They face an important league match on Saturday when Tottenham provide the opposition.

Then it's a Champions League fixture against Atalanta next week, before a potentially decisive derby against Manchester City the following weekend.

Solskjaer - in charge since December 2019 - described Sunday's defeat as the 'darkest day' of his time in the hotseat.

"It's not easy to say something apart from it's the darkest day I've had leading these players and we weren't good enough.

"Individually or as a team, you can't give a team like Liverpool them chances, and unfortunately we did.

"The whole performance wasn't good enough, that's for sure.

"We created openings, they've had chances, they've been clinical, we didn't take our chances early on and the third goal obviously is the one that decided the game."

The Norweigan also shouldered much of the blame for the performance.

"It's mine, that's it," he responded when questioned about responsibility.

"The coaching staff are very, very good, brilliant.

"I choose the way we approach the game and today we weren't clinical enough going forward, there was spaces for both teams and when you give good players spaces they score."

The next three games are likely to decide his future in the role, with Antonio Conte among those touted as a potential successor.
