Liverpool dominate PFA Player of the Year with four of six nominees

Premier League champions Liverpool have four players nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year award, with Trent Alexander-Arnold among the contenders.

The 21-year-old defender is also on the young player shortlist, and is joined by Anfield team-mates Virgil van Dijk, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mané in the list of six nominees.

Manchester City duo Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling are the others up for the award, which van Dijk won last year.

The winner is set to be announced next Tuesday, September 8th.

Chelsea and Manchester United both have two players included in the Young Player of the Year final six, with Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham the Blues stars set to go up against Alexander-Arnold.

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford are both nominated for United, after they helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to a third-placed finish last season.

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka rounds out the nominees in that category.

Chelsea's Beth England, Sophie Ingle, Guro Reiten and Ji So-yun are all included in the Women's Player of the Year category. They are joined by Arsenal pair Vivianne Miedema and Kim Little.

De Bruyne is considered by many to be one of the frontrunners for the main award, although John Giles told OTB Sports last week he wasn't convinced by the Belgian stars' temperament.

"I am not a great De Bruyne fan. I’m not. He is definitely one of the most talented players in the world, but I don’t like his attitude at all.

"I don’t think he is a scrapper, I think he’s a  temperamental lad who puts his head down and makes certain gestures to his teammates when he is not happy.

"I’ve heard too many times that ‘on his day he is the best’. When I hear ‘on his day’, I get the shivers about players.

"He is the most talented midfield player in the Premiership in my opinion, but is he the best player? I don’t think so.

"I saw him week in and week out, some days he was absolutely brilliant and he was the best on those particular days, but they were few and far between.

"I’d say with great players, they don’t have their days. Every day is a great day in terms of their attitude to the game, approach to the game, [and their] approach to their colleagues.

"They’re going to do their best regardless of the situation. I haven’t seen that from De Bruyne."
