Dublin hurling manager Mattie Kenny has sent out a message asking people not to forget senior citizens who may be feeling cut off at this time.

The Galway native and back-to-back All-Ireland winning boss with Cuala has also urged everyone to keep adhering to the HSE's guidelines in the fight against the coronavirus.

Kenny was speaking on a video released by Dublin GAA this week.

"I know it's difficult and challenging for us all at the moment, having to stay at home, but this is what we must do," said Kenny.

"We must all work together in the coming weeks to control the spread of this virus.

"We've asked the Dublin senior hurlers to do exactly that. To stay at home and come up with creative ideas at how they can best maintain their fitness and work on their hurling skills.

"They've shared some nice videos over the last few days, showing themselves doing exactly that."

Kenny also highlights the fact that it isn't just elite GAA players who need to be mindful of their physical fitness while adhering to the government's advice for everyone to stay at home.

"For ourselves it's also important that we maintain some physical activity," Kenny added.

"So whether it's out the back with a hurl and sliothar or kicking a football around or going for a nice walk or a jog, it's important we all get in our daily exercise.

"It's also important that we maintain that two kilometre rule from our home and at all times maintain the social distancing protocols."

Kenny goes on to ask people not to forget the older members of our community who may be at home on their own at this time.

"It's also very important that we stay connected at this stage," said Kenny.

"So whether it's through Whats App, Zoom, Skype or Facetime...or even the old fashioned telephone call, make sure you stay in touch, especially with the elderly in your family and the elderly in your community.

"This is what we're doing in Dublin senior hurling, we're staying in touch, mostly through Whats App.

"Today we're all part of the one team and we have all got to work together to fight this virus and stay healthy."
