Nuno to Palace? Lage to Wolves? Wagner to West Brom?

Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as the leading contender to fill the managerial vacancy at Crystal Palace.

The 47-year old recently parted company with Wolves after four seasons in the Molineux hot seat.

Nuno had been linked with the Everton job after Carlo Ancelotti returned to Real Madrid, but is reported to be in advanced talks to succeed Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park.

The Portuguese boss held positive discussions last week with Palace officials, and he's since edged closer to the South London gig.

Palace hope to have a manager in place by the weekend, with timing of the essence.

Thirteen players - including Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy - are out of contract this summer. Patrick van Aanholt, Mamadou Sakho and Connor Wickham are all definitely leaving.

But the likes of Gary Cahill, Wayne Hennessy, Andros Townsend and Joel Ward could all still be coaxed into staying.

Nuno's replacement at Wolves is almost sure to be Bruno Lage.

The former Benfica boss is already believed to be in England, and has been granted international clearance to join the Premier League club.

Lage won the Portuguese title with Benfica in 2019 before leaving the club. He is a client of Jorge Mendes and previously worked under Carlos Carvalhal at both Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Meanwhile, David Wagner is the preferred candidate to replace Sam Allardyce at West Brom.

The German was sacked as Schalke boss in September 2020, ending a run of 18 Bundesliga games without a win.

According to The Telegraph's John Percy, former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder was West Brom's number 1 choice to help guide them out of the Championship next season.

Wagner previously led Huddersfield Town to Premier League promotion - via the playoffs - in 2017.

An approach for Wilder was vetoed by the Baggies' China-based owner, Guochuan Lai. He was unwilling to pay compensation for the likes of Barnsley manager Valerian Ismael, or Lincoln City's Michael Appleton.
