Novak Djokovic continues march through French Open field

Novak Djokovic will have the opportunity of a second crack at Pablo Carren-Busta - this time at the French Open.

Djokovic continued to scythe his way through the men's field, beating Russia's Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals.

The top seed will face Carreno-Busta in the last eight. The Spaniard was the one to benefit from Djokovic's default at the US Open last month when he struck a line judge with a ball.

Carreno-Busta avoided becoming the third seed to fall to Daniel Altmaier, beating the German 6-2, 7-5, 6-2.

Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas won through to a first ever French Open quarter-final courtesy of a straight-sets win over Grigor Dimitrov.

Rublev avoided becoming the second Russian seed to fall to Marton Fucsovics. Having accounted for Daniil Medvedev in the first round, world no.63 Fucsovics lost in four sets to Rublev.

Petra Kvitova progressed to the women's quarter-finals for the first time since 2012.

The 7th seed took 1hr 25minutes to beat China's Zhang Shuai 6-2, 6-4.

"I wasn't really the player who always ever succeed on the clay," Kvitova said after the match, "After eight years to be in the quarterfinal again, it's great.

"I'm really happy for that, that I'm still able to play on all surfaces.

"One year I do remember I won tournaments on all surfaces. I showed myself that I can really play on every surface. So I'm glad for that."

Next up for her is Laura Siegumund. The German secured a first ever Grand Slam quarter-final place with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Paula Badosa of Spain.

Fourth seed Sofia Kenin was taken the distance for the third time in four matches, eventually beating world no.49 Fiona Ferro 6-2, 2-6, 6-1.
