Liverpool players and Kenny Dalglish in opposition to Super League

The Liverpool squad and club legend Kenny Dalglish are united in their disapproval with the Super League.

Led by captain Jordan Henderson, the players tweeted a simple message of unity on Tuesday night, "We don't like it, and we don't want it to happen".

Double-winning manager, and six-time League champion as a player at Anfield, Dalglish has also been sharing his thoughts on the breakaway league.

Reports on Tuesday night suggest the venture is dead-on-arrival anyway, with Manchester City and Chelsea set to withdraw.

The farrago has forced the resignation of Manchester United vice-chairman Ed Woodward. While Andrea Agnelli and Florentino Perez are said to be under pressure at Juventus and Real Madrid respectively.

Liverpool's stance as a club remains unclear, but their dipping of toes in Super League waters has proved deeply unpopular with fans and players.

Supporters groups have removed flags from Anfield's Kop in protest, while midfielder James Milner said on Monday night that he hopes the Super League doesn't come to pass.

The players mirrored his simple reply from the Elland Road sideline, adding, "Out commitment to the football club and its supporters is absolute and unconditional".

But around Anfield, perhaps no voice carries as much weight as that of Dalglish.

On Tuesday night, the 70-year old tweeted, "The last few days have been difficult for everyone who loves Liverpool Football Club and I really hope we do the right thing."

It would appear Dalglish has seen the reaction of the club's fans to the Super League, and has urged a withdrawal.

Earlier in the day, Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan cancelled a planned briefing of the club's staff on their Super League involvement.

Ed Woodward resigns as Manchester United vice-chairman
