IRFU to proceed with next phase of changing facilities review

The IRFU have confirmed they’ve received reports from all four provinces regarding last week’s temporary changing facilities at Energia Park.

Connacht and Ulster were forced to change in a derelict area of the stadium next to bins ahead of their interprovincial derby. The game itself finished 12-12.

The IRFU and Leinster apologised for the incident earlier this week, calling it an "unacceptable error in relation to the positioning of temporary changing facilities", adding they should have been set up in a more appropriate area.

Connacht accepted the apology, but later in the week sought a review into the matter.

"These circumstances were far from the standards we would expect for this level of our sport," read a statement.

They added, "We would request that a review of the decision making process which lead to these circumstances be conducted and our hope is that more thought will go into decisions like this for the women's game in the future."

On Wednesday night, the IRFU confirmed they would undertake a review into the decision-making process that led to players having to change in sub-standard facilities.

The association wanted to ascertain "how this situation could have occurred, why it was not identified as an issue and rectified in the hours before the players arrived."

The IRFU confirmed on Friday that reports had been received from all four provinces.

They say, "These reports will form the basis for the initial phase of the IRFU's review of the matter."
