Munster have signed South African forward Jason Jenkins ahead of next season.

The province have also seen Fineen Wycherley and Diarmuid Barron sign new contracts, as well as Academy quartet Jack Daly, Josh Wycherley, Thomas Ahern and Jack Crowley.

Jenkins can pack down as a lock, or in the back row, and has signed a one-year deal with Munster.

His arrival follows the confirmation that compatriot CJ Stander is retiring at the end of the season, along with Munster stalwart Billy Holland.

Jenkins is a former teammate of RG Snyman at the Bulls, and has also played for Toyota Verblitz in the Japanese Top League.

Asked what Jenkins can bring to the side, Munster senior coach Stephen Larkham responded, "Well, first and foremost experience: Springbok, Springbok 'A's, experience in Japan - albeit a different competition - playing for the Bulls in South Africa.

"He's a South African forward - he knows the tough stuff.

"He gives us coverage in all positions in the back-five - not going to put him in the front-row - but he can certainly play every position in the back-five.

"And I think he's going to bring experience to all of those players, whether they're young or old or in the team, he's going to give us good experience there."

Lock Fineen Wycherley and hooker Barron have both been rewarded for their performances over the past couple of seasons, with the former agreeing a new two-year deal. Barron's signed a one-year extension.

Jack Daly, Josh Wycherley and Thomas Ahern all become full-fledged senior squad members, following their graduation from the Munster Academy.

Crowley will do the same this time next year, after one final year under Academy terms.

"We are delighted to bring through this next crop of talented players," said Munster head coach Johann van Graan.

"Throughout this season in particular we have seen where and how they all add value when taking their opportunities at Munster ‘A’ and senior level.

"It’s exciting to oversee their continued progression as this group of ambitious young players strive for success in the red jersey and commit their futures to Munster Rugby.”
