Harry Arter joins Fulham on loan from Bournemouth

Republic of Ireland Harry Arter will spend a second season on-loan away from Bournemouth as he's joined Fulham.

The move could be made permanent next summer, when there would still be a year remaining on his Bournemouth contract.

Arter spent last season on-loan at Cardiff City during their doomed season in the Premier League, making 25 appearances under Neil Warnock.

The 29-year old says he wants to help Fulham return to the Premier League at their first attempt, "I’m delighted to be here. Fulham is a fantastic club with a lot of ambition who want to get back to the Premier League, and I hope I can help them achieve that this season."

Fulham have been far more conservative in the transfer market this summer, with their more notable arrivals all being loans. Anthony Knockaert has joined from Brighton, while winger Ivan Cavaleiro is a loan signing from Wolves.

Fulham owner Tony Khan sang Arter's praises, saying: "Harry Arter’s arrival at Fulham Football Club will strengthen our midfield and gives us another experienced and proven player who’s contributed to his former club’s promotion from the Championship.

"Harry’s a great fit for our squad, and we believe he’ll help us achieve our main objective, a return to the Premier League. Come on Fulham!"

Fulham began life back in the Championship with a 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at Oakwell, and welcome Blackburn Rovers to Craven Cottage on Saturday. They'll also have games with Huddersfield, Millwall, Nottingham Forest and Arter's former side Cardiff before August is through.

Arter will hope the move helps re-establish him in Mick McCarthy's Republic of Ireland squad. He wasn't involved for June's UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers with Denmark or Gibraltar. His last appearance in an Ireland jersey came with an 18-minute substitute appearance in the 1-0 win away to Gibraltar in March.
