GAA confirm limited attendance for NFL Division 3 final at Croke Park

The GAA has confirmed that Saturday's Allianz Football League Division Three final has been designated as a pilot event for the return of supporters.

Offaly are scheduled to play Derry at Croke Park in the only divisional final to be played in the league this year.

The GAA has confirmed that 2,400 spectators will be allowed inside the 82,300 capacity stadium on Dublin's Jones' Road.

It will be the first inter-county game in the 26 counties to have such a crowd in attendance in over 15-months.

Tickets for the 5pm throw-in are available via Ticketmaster only.

Since the end of May, crowds of 500 have been allowed to attend games in the Six Counties, in line with directives from the Northern Ireland Executive.

A number of sporting events have already been used as pilot events in the Republic, including last Friday's Rainbow Cup meeting of Leinster and the Dragons, and Shamrock Rovers' SSE Airtricity Premier Division clash with Finn Harps.

The GAA say, "We are asking all of those who hope to attend to be mindful of restrictions that will be in place and to co-operate with stewards at all times while in the stadium.

"Social distancing will be in operation and patrons will be required to wear masks for the duration of their visit.

"We are also reminding supporters of the ongoing pandemic restrictions which still apply relating to pre and post-match gatherings and in planning journeys to and from the stadium."

After Sunday's 1-14 to 0-12 win over Fermanagh secured promotion to Division Two, Offaly manager John Maughan said, "I think they’ll learn more by playing in a higher division, I’m not knocking Division 3 there’s a good opposition there and there’s good opposition going down to Division 4 as we discovered earlier on today.

"But lookit (sic), they will improve by playing against higher and better opposition in Division 2.

“That was always our aspiration and thankfully the league format this year probably suited us. People were suggesting that the northern section was a tougher one but Cavan fell on their sword today with Wicklow turning them over so Division 2 football was certainly our target.”
