Ederson could be solution to City's penalty problems | Pep Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola says goalkeeper Ederson is an option as their penalty taker in the coming weeks.

Ilkay Gundogan become the third City player to miss from the spot this season when he blazed over the bar in the Premier League leaders' 4-1 victory against Manchester City on Sunday.

Guardiola's side failed to convert six of their 16 penalties last year and the Spanish coach says Ederson could be the next player to step up while their regular takers Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero are injured.

"He has to save them also, then after we see what happens. It depends on the players. Sergio's not fit, Kevin's an incredibly good taker but is unfortunately not fit yet.

"We will see tomorrow (in their FA Cup fifth round match against Swansea) - it depends on the line up. But he is an option because I am pretty sure he's a good taker. A penalty taker has to be the personality with huge confidence in himself."

Guardiola also said he's been impressed by the work Steve Cooper has been doing with Championship promotion hopefuls Swansea this term.

"Swansea have a tradition of good managers. Michael Laudrup was there, Roberto Martinez, Mr Potter, Brighton manager - now I realise how good he is.

"When we faced him we suffered a lot, we were 2-0 down, our third goal was offside. So it was a difficult, difficult game.

"I don't expect a different game that we played two seasons ago, when we suffered incredibly to go through. I know Swansea's consistency, they are so solid, physical, quality to play up front with Andre Ayew. A real test."
