Dublin's drive for five still alive after Donegal win

Dublin's women's footballers are through to another All-Ireland semi-final.

Mick Bohan's charges eventually shrugged off the shackles of Donegal in their quarter-final joust in Carrick-on-Shannon.

It means their ambition of securing five titles in a row is still alive.

Player of the Match Carla Rowe contributed two goals in a 2-12 to 2-7 win.

However, the holders did not have it all their own way at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada.

Donegal dominated the early exchanges and held a 1-2 to no score lead after just two minutes with Geraldine McLaughlin doing the early damage.

Under pressure, Dublin soon found their rhythm and the first of Rowe's goals put them into the lead for the first time.

Katy Herron's superb finish trimmed Dublin's lead at half-time to just a point, 1-6 to 2-2.

Rowe's second goal after 37 minutes, however, padded Dublin's lead out to five and they saw the game out from there.

Dublin are seeking to become the first side since Cork in 2015 to record five titles in succession.

Ironically, Cork beat the Dubs in that final encounter to secure a tenth title in 11 years.

Dublin's semi-final opponents in two weeks time will be Mayo.

They got the better of Galway in a frantic Connacht derby, winning out on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-11.

Michael Moyles' side looked in control having established a 1-13 to 0-7 lead by the 40th minute.

The impressive Sinead Cafferky netted a marvellous goal in the opening half.

Galway, buoyed by the introduction of Mairead Seoighe, then staged a commendable comeback.

Seoighe's goal after 44 minutes was the catalyst, and they managed to close the gap to three points at one stage.

Mayo, however, clung on to secure a place in the last four.

Cork and Meath are on the other side of the draw.

The semi-finals are scheduled to take place on August 14th.
