Djokovic 'pleased and grateful' for court ruling

Novak Djokovic says he's focused on playing in the Australian Open.

The world number one has emerged from hotel quarantine after a dramatic morning in Melbourne.

He succeeded in his appeal against deportation from the country after a court hearing.

Now, having left the detention facility, Djokovic has tweeted to thank his fans for their support.

He trained before releasing a tweet to his followers.

"I’m pleased and grateful that the Judge overturned my visa cancellation.

"Despite all that has happened, I want to stay and try to compete

I remain focused on that.

"I flew here to play at one of the most important events we have in front of the amazing fans.

"For now I cannot say more but THANK YOU all for standing with me through all this and encouraging me to stay strong."

A transcript released of Djokovic's interview with Border Patrol Police revealed he has twice tested positive for Covid-19 and has not been vaccinated.

All entrants to Australia must have been vaccinated or have a valid medical exemption.

Djokovic was granted a medical exemption, which allowed him obtain a visa to travel to Australia, but it was revoked on his arrival.

He has been in quarantine since last Thursday, but this morning's court hearing overturned the decision.

Ugly scenes have also erupted on Melbourne's streets, where hundreds of fans have come out in support of the Serb.

Police used pepper spray following clashes with some of his supporters.

Djordje Djokovic - the 20-time Grand Slam winner's brother - said he went to the country to break the record.

He added that Djokovic had all the necessary documentation required.

The situation could yet change, with the Australian Immigration Minister holding the power to cancel his visa for a second time.

A spokesperson for Alex Hawke said the matter remains under consideration.
