Cian O'Neill is "not even thinking" about his future with Kildare

Kildare boss Cian O'Neill says he is "not even thinking about a decision" on his future with the county following a 10-point loss to Tyrone in Round 3 of the football qualifiers.

Mickey Harte's men finished up scoring 2:22 this evening in Newbridge booking their place in Round 4 - leaving them one win away from the Super 8s series.

The Kildare manager got sent to the stands in the first half after a discussion with officials over a yellow card given out to one of his players.

Speculation has been circling around O'Neill that the meeting with the Red Hand county would be his last in charge of the Lillywhites, but he said he will spend time with the players before making a decision.

"The guys died with their boots out there today. Although we were chasing in the first half at the start, we were chasing at the start of the second half.

"They kept playing. My thoughts are with the players and spent a bit of time with them tonight. See where we go from there.

"In this case, I'm not even thinking about a decision I'm just thinking of the lads. It would've been different if we got whitewashed there.

"The last quarter we played with 14 men, they kept going. We hit the post at the end, it would have been nice to get a second goal - it would have reflected the effort we put in."

He says going out in the fashion they did was "bitterly" disappointing. The Kildare boss said they needed luck, but they never got it:

"When you're playing a top team like Tyrone, you really need everything going your way. You're hoping a couple of things won't work out for them.

"Unfortunately, it wasn't the case, we had a slow start we let them into the game very early. There was a strong breeze and we let them run at us.

"They got five or six up and it looked like it would be a long half, we knew we would have the wind in the second. The players fought back brilliantly."
