Callum Robinson goal helps West Brom gain Premier League promotion

Republic of Ireland striker Callum Robison scored one and created another as West Brom did enough to earn promotion to the Premier League.

Slaven Bilic's side finished runners-up to Leeds on a night when none of the promotion hopefuls actually managed to win.

West Brom's task was the most straight-forward, knowing a win at home to QPR would be enough to secure second place.

It didn't start off to their liking, with Republic of Ireland U21 international Ryan Manning giving Rangers the lead at the Hawthorns.

For a time it looked liked the door was being left ajar for Brentford.

However, they fell behind to a Barnsley side fighting for their survival in the second tier.

Just before half-time at the Hawthorns, Robinson set-up Grady Diangana to level for the Baggies.

Four minutes after the break, Diangana and Robinson combined again, this time for the Ireland forward to find the net and give West Brom the lead.

The game at Griffin Park was also intertwined with that at the DW Stadium.

A Wigan win would have likely seen them effectively negate their 12-point penalty for going into administration, and in the process keep them in the division.

Kieffer Moore gave them a first-half lead at home to Fulham, who needed a win to keep alive their slim hopes of nabbing second.

Neeskens Kebano's goal five-minutes after half-time for Fulham all-but ended Wigan's hopes of survival.

Allied to that, Barnsley were getting the job done back at Brentford. Josh Da Silva levelled for the hosts with 18-minutes to go.

But an injury time strike from Clarke Oduor secured a 2-1 victory for the Yorkshire side.

West Brom conceded a second QPR goal through Eberechi Eze that saw their game finish 2-2.

But it was ultimately to prove enough to get over the line, and seal promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Brentford and Fulham would have already been assured of playoff places going into tonight's games, but the two beneath them were very much up for grabs.

That three-way dance for fifth and sixth became the story of the night, and one told with a Welsh brogue.

Cardiff City's 3-0 win at home to Hull helped them pinch fifth place.

But sixth wasn't decided until deep into injury time. Nottingham Forest - who had started the night in fifth - conceded three goals in the last 17-minutes at home to Stoke.

A 4-1 defeat for Sabri Lamouchi's team saw them drop out of the top six.

They were replaced by Swansea City, for whom Nathan Routeledge's injury time header helped them to a 4-1 win over their own at Reading to pip Forest by a solitary goal.

Wigan will be relegated - unless they successfully appeal their 12-point deduction - along with Charlton and Hull.

Champions Leeds signed off with a 4-0 win at home to Charlton.
