Another round of negative results for Bohemians players & staff

All of the players and staff from Bohemians have received negative results again after the latest round of tests for Covid-19.

This was the sixth round of testing as part of the FAI’s pilot programme for a safer return to action for all Irish football.

The FAI's Medical Director Dr. Alan Byrne received the results yesterday after everyone involved with Bohemians' return to action was tested ahead of training on Thursday evening.

All those tested have been informed of their negative result.

Six rounds of tests - on close to 900 players and staff at the four clubs - have now been conducted on the four European qualified squads and all results have been negative.

The FAI has already announced that testing for COVID-19 on players and staff from Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers, Bohemians and Derry City is suspended with immediate effect as part of the new pathway to a Safer Return to Football which was announced on Friday.

The decision was made at Abbotstown to for the return to play roadmap to be brought forward following the news that the Government was speeding up the easing of restrictions, and allowing contact sports resume on June 29.

The FAI say that all SSE Airtricity League and Women’s National League clubs can resume training on June 29, along with playing intra-club friendlies.

Games against adult amateur teams can commence from July 11.

SSE Airtricity Premier Division clubs will decide on a return to play date this week, with early August earmarked for the Women's National League.

Meanwhile Dundalk have confirmed the appointment of former Waterford boss Alan Reynolds as their new assistant manager.

The 49-year-old replaces Ruaidhrí Higgins, who left Oriel Park to join Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland backroom team last month.

Reynolds joins manager Vinny Perth and coach John Gill as the Lilywhites gear up to defend their title against Premier Division leaders Shamrock Rovers when the season resumes.
