Who are Ireland's statistical leaders in this season's Premier League?

Last night, few had any complaints as Riyad Mahrez was named PFA Players Player of the Year.

The Leicester winger has been outstanding this season as the Foxes move to the brink of a historic title achievement.

But who are the Irish players who have shone when we take Premier League stats into account?

Goals and shots

Shane Long got on the scoresheet for Southampton at the weekend as they beat Aston Villa 4-2. The Ireland striker will hope to have played his way into Martin O'Neill's starting team to face Sweden on June 13th.

The Tipperary man is our highest goalscorer in this season's Premier League with nine for the campaign, which puts him into the Top 20 goalscorers in this season's Premier League.

He is also the leading Irishman for shots per game with 2.3 attempts per game.

Creativity

Wes Hoolahan has shown plenty of end product for Norwich this season and in fact is in the Top 10 for assists this season with eight.

Shane Long is second in that regard with four assists for the 2015-16 season.

In terms of key passes, Hoolahan and his Norwich and Ireland team-mate Robbie Brady are ranked joint-21st with 1.6 per match which shows how influential they have been for their club in the fight for survival.

Defending

Glenn Whelan and James McCarthy are the leading Irishmen in the Premier League for interceptions per game with two per match for Stoke and Everton respectively this season.

And when it comes to tackles, McCarthy is well out in front with just under three per match across the 2015-16 season.
