Watford's new manager is keeping the team locked up in a hotel during pre-season training

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has wasted no time in laying down the law with his new squad.

The 54-year-old former Napoli and Inter Milan manager has never played or managed a non-Italian club in his career, but was named as Watford's new manager last May on a three year deal.

The team are continuing their pre-season preparations ahead of the Premier League season, but The Guardian claim that Mazzarri has forced the team to stay in a hotel to help with team bonding. The team have been based in a hotel near the club's training ground since pre-season training began last week.

"We have been staying in a hotel, going back and forth from the training ground," new signing Jerome Sinclair revealed. "We’ve all been staying together, but for me I do not have a place yet down here anyway so it’s not been much different for me but for some of the lads, maybe they’re not so keen, but it’s OK."

The former Liverpool player expects Mazzarri's hotel methods to be used throughout the season. "We are just taking it as it comes at the moment – we have not been told what’s forthcoming for the future but I think it may be something that we see a bit more of... There has been a lot of bonding but it’s great a bunch of lads."

Last season's FA Cup semi-finalists begin their Premier League campaign away to Southampton on August 13th.
