Second Waterford FC Player to be tested for Covid-19 returns negative result

Waterford FC has confirmed that the second player from their squad who was tested for Covid-19 has returned a negative result.

It was confirmed on Friday afternoon that the first player to be tested also received a negative result for Covid-19.

The club had temporarily suspended all club activity following two players displaying flu-like symptoms earlier this week.

This led to their game against Sligo Rovers in the SSE Airtricity Premier Divison, which was due to be played on Tuesday, being postponed.

Waterford's club doctor Sinead Fitzpatrick resigned from her role on Tuesday morning, but it's not known if her departure is connected with either case.

Their game against Cork City did go ahead on Saturday afternoon and ended in a 0-0 draw.

A statement on Saturday evening from the FAI said,

"The FAI has noted that the second Waterford FC player to undergo a COVID-19 test has returned a negative result.

"The FAI has urged SSE Airtricity League clubs to continue to follow the FAI Safer Return to Play Protocol and HSE Covid-19 guidelines."
