WATCH | Roy Keane on Liverpool failure: 'It's excuses after excuses'

Roy Keane has castigated Liverpool for making 'excuses' for their poor run of form after losing to Manchester City.

Liverpool fell to their third defeat in a row against City at Anfield, and Keane believes that the Reds need to reassess their position.

"People keep telling me that Liverpool are a great club and a huge club - if you're a huge club, you have to deal with setbacks," Keane told Sky Sports.

"Is that not part of the game? If everyone had all their players fit all the time, it would be fantastic. If you look at Manchester City for a moment, with the run that they have been on, you could say they are missing two of their best players.

"But they have come to Liverpool today... and Liverpool had a strong team out today. I know they're missing their two centre-halves but they still have their best attacking players on the pitch, still had their best goalkeeper available, and have international players in midfield."

In something of a classic of the genre, Keane really set about the approach from the Reds.

"After the game, we're talking about Jurgen Klopp talking about the goalkeeper's feet being cold. That's a new one - I know it was tongue-in-cheek a little bit. But it is excuses after excuses.

"Jurgen Klopp said earlier that Manchester City had a break because of the virus when their game was called off - it just goes on and on and on.

"You want a reaction from Liverpool's performance the other night against Brighton, it was really poor. A few weeks ago, it was against Burnley, or they go to Manchester United in the cup and concede three. Earlier in the season, it was seven against Aston Villa.

"You could say 'this is a one-off, it's a freak season, it's corona..' - just get on with it. Perform like champions.

"If you keep performing like that, it'll be another 30 years before you win the league title."
