Transfer rumour roundup: Wenger says no to Benzema, De Gea saga rumbles on

Arsenal's victory in the Community Shield yesterday provided plenty of talking points, but in the post-match press conference, the topic of Karim Benzema and his possible move to The Emirates came up. Wenger however was in no mood to feed the gossip, and while he has been coy on the topic previously, he was crystal clear yesterday, saying "No, honestly, no. I don't know who brings that up". Funnily enough, The Daily Mail chose to completely ignore that and are still running with the story that he's the top transfer target for the Gunners. If he does move, Real are apparently looking at Alvaro Morata (who they only sold last season) or Sergio Aguero from Manchester City.

David De Gea's reported move to Real Madrid has been the subject of seemingly endless speculation all summer long, and that trend continues today, although there are almost no real developments. The only hint of a change in the situation revolves around the fact that neither the player nor Real Madrid want him to start for Manchester United in their season opener, and that might force the deal through at some stage this week. Don't hold your breath, though.

Liverpool are still looking to seal a deal for Russian winger Denis Cheryshev from Real Madrid. The 24-year-old has mostly spent his time at the Spanish giants on loan at Sevilla and Villareal, but despite that Liverpool are reported to be offering nearly £15 million for him.

In other news, Coloccini has apparently ended speculation about him leaving Newcastle, stating that he wants to finish his career at the club; Tottenham have slightly lowered their asking price for Roberto Soldado to £11 million to get a deal done with Villareal; Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking is confident that Kevin De Bruyne will not be joining Manchester City this transfer window; Manchester United's Rafael could be on the move to Lyon, but the reported fee for the Brazilian varies between £2 million and £7 million; Liverpool and England U18 star Sheyi Ojo is headed to Wolves for a season long loan; Southampton have bid £8 million for Celtic's Virgil van Dijk; and finally, West Ham are set to up their pursuit of Charlie Austin as it seems striker Enner Valencia will be out for four months with a knee injury.
