"As poor as you'll see from a Man United team": A disgruntled Paul Scholes reacts to United's latest loss

Following Manchester United's 3-1 defeat to Watford today, retired club legend Paul Scholes issued a particularly negative analysis of his former club.

Today's result marked United's third successive defeat following losses to Feyenoord (Europa League) and local rivals Manchester City (Premier League), leaving them six points behind the table leaders.

Aside from the disappointing result against a team that has just been promoted to top-flight football, United have other issues to worry about.

Jose Mourinho has admitted he thinks some players are unable to cope with the pressures of performing for the club while Anthony Martial's head injury has sparked concern over concussion treatment procedures.

In a post-match lament on BT Sport, Scholes made no hesitation in remarking on United's deficiencies on the pitch.

"The quality on the ball is as poor as you will ever see from a Manchester United team and that's just the way it is at the minute. You're not sure what you're going to get."

"Rashford is probably the only shining light really and he didn't have his best game today, but he looked a threat. I just think in possession Man United were really, really poor. Individually it wasn't good enough. In possession it wasn't good enough. So sloppy, giving the ball away all the time."

He also highlighted the performance of Marouane Fellaini, a player who tends to attract negative reviews when playing for Man United. And while Scholes praised Fellaini for today's display, he still thinks he should be benched for one of the club's more experienced campaigners.

"I thought Fellaini was alright today; he does a job in there. But I think that if you are Manchester United, you need more than that. You need someone who can stop the play as well, someone who can stop the opposition but who is capable of controlling a game of football as well, playing forward and passing forward.

"I can't understand why Michael Carrick is here. He looked like he was leaving last year and he's not been involved for a minute this season. What he has done, I don't know."

Fellow pundit Steven McManaman echoed Scholes comments and said that United look to be in 'disarray.'

"I've no idea how they're gonna play, who's gonna play, where they're gonna play. No communication, nobody knew what to do, everybody was running around."
