The Kick Off: Still no place for the Gooch

GAELIC GAMES

Limerick last night brought to an end Clare's monopoly on the Bord Gáis Energy Munster Under 21 Hurling Championship.

The Banner were denied a fourth provincial crown in-a-row after the young Treatymen ran out 0-22 to 0-19 winners in Ennis.

There's still no room for Colm Cooper in the Kerry starting fifteen for Sunday's All Ireland quarter final with Kildare.

There is one change to the Kingdom attack however with Stephen O'Brien in for Johnny Buckley in the half forward line.

Rory Brennan replaces Cathal McCarron in the Tyrone full-back line for tomorrow's qualifier with Sligo - a game we will have live and exclusive on tomorrow's Off The Ball

Meanwhile, Adrian Varley replaces Peadar Óg Ó Gríofa at corner forward for Galway's qualifier with Donegal.

RACING

It's day five of the Galway Races and The Guinness Handicap is the feature race that gets underway at 6.50pm.

Competing in the race is Willie Mullins' Clondaw Warrior, Dermot Weld-trained Show Court and last year's winner, Artful Artist.

SOCCER

Shane Long was on target for Southampton in their 3-0 first leg win over Vitesse Arnhem in the third qualifying round for the Europa League.

However, West Ham let a 2 goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Romanian side Astra at Upton Park.

GOLF

Michael Hoey faces Sweden's Kristoffer Broberg in the second round of the Paul Lawrie Matchplay in Aberdeen today.

Ruaidhrí McGee and Kevin Phelan are best placed of the Irish heading into the second round of the Madeira Islands Open.

Both start from 3-under par, six shots adrift of the leader - Spain's Antonio Hortal.
