Stephen Elliott and Stuart Byrne pick apart Cork City's challenge against Dundalk

Shelbourne striker Stephen Elliott feels that Cork City need to get a positive result against Dundalk this Friday to really keep the League of Ireland title race alive.

The striker returned to League of Ireland this season after spells in England with the likes of Manchester City, Sunderland, Wolves and Preston North End among others and joined Stuart Byrne and Off The Ball tonight.

Cork City trail the 2014 and 2015 champions Dundalk by four points before this head-to-head.

"Dundalk seem to know how to win games whether they're playing good or bad. If Cork don't get a result in this game then it opens up a really big gap going into the break - seven points. At this stage of the season, it's always a big chase," said Elliott.

Stuey meanwhile feels Cork need to play the type of high intensity game which saw them beat their title rivals in March.

"This is a real opportunity for Cork to put a real psychological blow on Dundalk," he said.

"If Cork can win it, it would be the third time this season they'll have beaten them."
