Gennaro Gattuso described Spurs as a 'mess' to former player

Way back in the dim and distant past, beyond the work of Jesus, and the reptilian machinations of the dinosaurs themselves, Spurs began their search for a new manager.

It isn't going well.

That said, one of the many contenders for job has let slip - or, rather, a former player of his has - that they are not giving off the best display to potential coaches.

Lorenzo Insigne is on Euro 2020 duty with Italy, and the diminutive forward has said his former manager at Napoli, Gennaro Gattuso was not impressed with Spurs.

"We’ve texted each other, he told me there was a bit of mess," Insigne told Football Italia.

'But now I am focused on the Euros, while he’s on holiday so I am not going to ask him such questions.'

Spurs

Meanwhile, Tottenham's protracted search for a new manager has taken another twist with Sevilla rejecting a "dizzying" approach for Julen Lopetegui.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho in April, leaving Ryan Mason to steer the ship until the end of the season.

Since then, talks with Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Genarro Gattuso have brought them no closer to appointing a successor.

According to Sevilla president Jose Castro, the North London club have now turned their attentions to Lopetegui.

"Julen rang me and told me. He said he'd received offers he'd not listened to in addition to a dizzying one from Tottenham.

"But he said he doesn't forget things and that he is very motivated here.

"We believed and believe in him, giving him a two-year contract extension, and I'm sure he will bring much more to the club.

"You see his ability and leadership every day. Some coaches are more driven by economic factors but Julen is very clear that he is happy here and he even said it would be very difficult to find a better place to work than here."
