Wales and Scotland could meet to decide who goes to next year's World Cup.

World Cup winners Lothar Matthaus and Christian Karembeu conducted the playoff draw in Zurich this afternoon, along with ex-Portugal international Thiago.

Twelve European nations are left to scramble for three precious places at Qatar 2022.

Scotland and Wales were drawn in opposing sides of Path A, meaning if they win their respective semi-finals against Ukraine and Austria, they'll face off for a place in Qatar next March.

Wales will have home advantage for that path's final, if they beat Austria.

Meanwhile, one of Portugal or Italy will miss out on the World Cup. They've been drawn on opposing sides in Path C.

Portugal will be at home to Turkey in the semi-finals, and the Azzurri will host North Macedonia. Portugal will have home advantage for that path's final.

The winner of the Russia v Poland semi-final will be at home to either Sweden or the Czech Republic in Path B.

The semi-finals in each path will be played on March 24 of next year, with each path's finals happening on March 29.

Path A:

Scotland v Ukraine

Wales v Austria

Path B:

Russia v Poland

Sweden v Czech Republic

Path C:
