Sam Allardyce reacts as he bags first league win with West Brom

Sam Allardyce has his first league win since returning to the Premier League last month.

His relegation-fighting West Brom side beat Wolves 3-2 at lunchtime on Saturday in the Black Country derby.

Two penalties from Matheus Pereir and a Semi Ajayi header saw the Baggies beat their neighbours in the top flight for the first time in nine years.

With the win, they remain second from bottom but are just three points from safety.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Allardyce wasn't just happy with the three points but also how they played.

"In the vast majority of that performance, I thought that the plan and the way the lads carried out the tactics was excellent.

"I think it's the best I've seen us in possession since I've been here. We did some really good defending at Liverpool but from there on we've been waiting on getting the defending side right and getting the attacking side right.

"I have to say the lads were excellent in the second half because you could have felt the heads would go down with the problems and results we've had recently, but they came bouncing back with a goal and a penalty and I think we created other chances after that that would have made it even further in terms of the score.

"And they then defended very well at the end when Wolves threw everybody forward so it's a very good performance under the circumstances.

"It's even better for us because of the position we're in and it's even better for us - the club and the fans - because we beat our local rivals in the Black Country derby, we can send everybody home happy and look forward to gaining a bit of confidence for West Ham on Tuesday."
