'Roy Keane is the player every team needs' | Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes says that the club's most successful captain, Roy Keane, is the type of player that every team needs.

Fernandes was answering questions during an official club Q&A when a young Irish supporter named Connor Kingston asked if he'd prefer to play alongside Keane or Paul Scholes.

"If I can have both, [it's] better!" was Fernandes' very diplomatic reply.

The former Republic of Ireland skipper played alongside Scholes in the United engine room for over a decade.

Fernandes, who arrived at Old Trafford from Sporting in January, went on to praise Keane who led the club to nine major honours as captain.

"I need the guy behind me kicking everyone and recovering balls, like Roy Keane does, and have the quality to give the balls to the guys up front," said Fernandes.

"If you look at Roy Keane, he's the kind of player all teams need. Teams play in different ways, but all the teams can have him.

"Doesn't matter if you play in possession [or] on the counter, you need a guy like this normally. I think Roy Keane is an excellent player and he can give me a lot of cover in the back."

The 25-year-old Portuguese international believes he could have helped form a formidable midfield trio with the two ex-United players.

"To play side-to-side with Scholes would be fantastic," he added.

"If I can play with both, I play with Roy Keane in the back behind me and Scholes. Because me and Scholes can both go in the area, scoring.

"We want to score, we want to be in the area, no? And maybe we will need Roy Keane at our backs."

United spent €55m on signing Fernandes who also said that the club needs to focus on signing players who are hungry to win titles.

"I'm hungry to win everything. I came to Manchester to win... league, Champions League, everything.

"We already have a big team, but whoever comes needs to come to win. Just to focus to win, I want people hungry for titles.

"We know the potential Manchester have, because we are a young team, but we’ve a lot of quality... I feel this now in the group, everyone wants to win."
