REACTION | Liverpool lose five home games in a row for the first time

Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield this evening to move within four points of Manchester United in second place.

The defeat for Liverpool was the fifth home loss in a row for Jurgen Klopp's side, a situation that the club have not faced in their history.

The goal came from Mason Mount just before half-time with a crashing strike past Alisson in the Liverpool goal.

Jamie Carragher on Liverpool

Jamie Carragher reflected on the evening's game and the

"They don't look like scoring, if you look at the games where they haven't scored, it never feels like a goal is coming," Carragher told Sky Sports.

"Even with 20 minutes to go, you don't really feel like Liverpool are going to score.

"Even late on, it almost felt like it needed to be a big Chelsea mistake for Liverpool to score."

Carragher went on to say the situation of Mo Salah appears to typify where the Reds are at currently.

"I must say, I could not believe Salah came off. Liverpool were desperate for a goal, to take off your top goalscorer was a strange one.

"Klopp has never been shy in taking Salah off the pitch, so it is not like he is worried about taking Mo Salah off. He has taken off Salah in situations where he has been poor. A lot of the time when he has been brought off in the past, Liverpool's attacking play has been breaking down due to losing possession.

"He wasn't at his best today, but he didn't lose possession but he didn't have much of the ball. But Salah isn't a great player on the ball, he is probably a better player off the ball. Making runs and scoring.

"Liverpool needed a goal in that second half."
