'Pellegrini has suffered from a lack of tactical nuance'

If Manchester City had a feeling that they will not win the Premier League title this season, it pretty much became reality last night as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat at in-form Crystal Palace.

ESPN's John Brewin was at the game last night and tonight he told Off The Ball that the club has failed to evolve.

"I think one of the problems of Manchester City is that if you look at that starting line-up, only Bacary Sagna was not part of the team that won the title last season and the problem is nowadays in the Premier League, things have moved on a little bit more tactically.

"It used to be if you had the best team and the best players and you play 4-4-2, most of the time you would beat the opposition. That's essentially what Manuel Pellegrini has done. I think Crystal Palace had worked them out as many teams have, especially away from home where they've got a terrible record. Pellegrini has suffered from a lack of tactical nuance. He's also suffered from the lack of fresh players coming in. City look stale."

Brewin also gave an insight into the reasons behind Alan Pardew's success at Crystal Palace thus far.
