Patrick Bamford still hopeful of making England's Euro 2020 squad

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford believes he still has a chance of getting into England's squad for this summer's European Championships.

The former Ireland youth international provided a goal and an assist as he helped Leeds beat Fulham 2-1 in the Premier League last night.

It came hours after he was left out by England manager Gareth Southgate for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but the 27-year-old is willing to be patient.

“Every player who gets called up thoroughly deserves it," Bamford, who has scored 14 Premier League goals this term, told Sky Sports after the game at Craven Cottage.

"I think a few who thought they might get called up didn’t and are disappointed. I just need to keep working and see if I can get my name in contention for the Euros.

"If I keep going as I am I think I’m in with a shot. If you told me at the start of the season I’d be linked with England I’d say you were bonkers.

“If it comes, it comes. If not I’ll know I’ve done my best. It was in the back of my mind a little bit I guess. It gives you a bit of extra fire in your belly.”
