Jurgen Klinsmann is the new manager of Ecuador

Jurgen Klinsmann has agreed to become the new head coach of Ecuador.

The former Germany and United States head coach has - according to Bild - agreed a salary with the South American country of $4.5m (€4m) a year.

Klinsmann has been out of management since resigning from his US post in November of 2016 after starting them on a road that led to the States missing out on qualification for the 2018 World Cup.

Ecuador sacked their previous manager, Colombian Hernan Dario Gomez in July following a disappointing Copa America campaign that saw them lose to Uruguay and Chile and draw with Japan to finish bottom of Group C.

Jorge Celcio has been in temporary charge since, and secured friendly wins over both Peru and Bolivia but saw his side hammered 6-1 by a rampant Argentina in Elche.

His appointment as Ecuador manager may even allow 55-year old Klinsmann to remain at his Huntingdon Beach home in California.

Klinsmann's first game in charge of Ecuador is likely to be November's friendly with 2020 Copa America co-hosts Colombia. The two sides have been drawn together as well for the group stage of the 2020 Copa.

That tournament - split between Colombia and Argentina - will also see Ecuador face Brazil, Venezuela and Peru along with either of the invitees Qatar or Australia.
