I never ever think that Liverpool are well-organised in any match

For all the talk of Liverpool's change to a back three sorting their form out during the season, the Cup win against Blackburn showed that it was just urgency they needed all along.

I thought they were good against Blackburn. There was an urgency about them that has been missing.

They did have breaks, Simon Mignolet made couple of good saves, and Blackburn had chances. But Liverpool's attitude was good and they'd a better balance.

We heard Brendan Rodgers going on and on about the back three which made a big difference to them this season - but actually they had a back four against Blackburn.

I never thought it was the system that gave them the good performances. I think what was lacking at the start of the season was the intensity, as they call it now, that they had last season.

I think when they went to the back three, the players and Rodgers thought 'we have to start again' so they raised the intensity of their game which was the main reason for the good results that they got - not the actual formation.

If it was so good, why did they change it at Ewood Park?

But regardless of what formation Liverpool use, Rodgers doesn't organise his defence well. If you look at last year when they had a very, very good league season, they conceded 50 goals.

If you get top defenders in, they can do most of that work for you, but they still need a bit of organisation.

I never ever think that Liverpool are well-organised in any match.

What Rodgers concentrates on - which is very good - is getting possession of the ball as near to the opposition goal as they can, which takes the pressure off the defence.

But you can't do that all the time. Defenders have to defend at some stage in the match. You're not going to be on top for 90 minutes.

And I never think that their full-backs are in the right position to defend - or the centre-backs for that matter, particularly for corner-kicks and free-kicks. Liverpool lose far too many goals from set-pieces.

Rodgers simply doesn't have what Jose Mourinho has in organising a defence.

But I don't think he is in full control of the situation at Liverpool.

For example, the situation with Mario Balotelli has become a joke at the moment.

Rodgers said it during the week - Balotelli deemed himself unfit for the game against Blackburn - and I read he was out having a good time in a nightclub in Manchester.

That's a nightmare for Rodgers who, to be fair to him, got a spirit at the club last year and he's encouraged a good spirit with the young players he's got.

But I never believed he signed Balotelli. It's common knowledge now that Liverpool have a committee of six that decide on the transfers - and Rodgers is on that. So if you're only one of six, you're not in charge of the situation.
