Jeff Hendrick talks Martin O'Neills ability to make Ireland's players comfortable

Ireland midfielder Jeff Hendrick has praised Martin O'Neill for his ability to make the players comfortable in the international setup.

The Derby County player who is in contention for a place at Euro 2016 spoke highly of the manager when speaking to Off The Ball's Nathan Murphy.

"Before games he'll have a quiet word and talk to you throughout the week, make you feel comfortable and tell you what you've done well and for me it's always good to be going into the games confident. That's what he seems to do with me leading up to most games. I'm happy with that and hopefully he keeps doing that," said Hendrick.

The 24-year-old also spoke about his early experiences going on trial to the likes of Manchester United and Celtic as a teenager, eventually joining Derby in 2008 from St Kevin's Boys at 15.

"Straight away I just felt welcome," he said of joining Derby, and added that he never suffered from homesickness as a result, although there were setbacks along the way.

Hendrick also confirmed that he will return from injury within five weeks.
