Inter Milan part company with Frank de Boer

Inter Milan have parted company with manager Frank de Boer after weeks of speculation over his position.

The Dutchman was under pressure after making a poor start to the season, winning just five games of his 14 in charge with the nerazzurri.

Their most recent defeat was a 1-0 loss against Sampdoria on Sunday, and with new owners in place since June, the Sunings Holding Group have moved to turn the club's season around.

According to The Mirror, the Chinese owners opted to inform him that his services were no longer needed via a conference call on Tuesday morning. De Boer has since traveled to Inter's training ground in Appiano Gentile to say goodbye to the staff and players there.

Sitting in 12th place in Serie A, Internazionale are 13 points adrift of the leaders Juventus and eight points away from a place in the Champions League.

They have also been dealing with a number of issues off the pitch in recent weeks, as clashes between star striker Mauro Icardi and the club's ultras grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons.

De Boer resigned from Ajax last season after a disappointing end to his tenure there, in which he was pipped to the title by PSV on the final day.

Although it looked as though he was taking a short break from the game after leaving the Dutch club, he was apparently considered for a number of managerial vacancies during the summer, including in the Premier League at Everton, which was eventually filled by his compatriot Ronald Koeman, and Southampton, which went to Claude Puel.

However, he was tempted out of taking time away from football by the chance to manage Internazionale and the project put in motion by the new owners.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the favourite to replace him in Milan is Stefano Pioli, while the current manager of the Primavera side, Stefano Vecchi, is also believed to be in the running.
