Hamann slams Dortmund for letting Haaland 'walk all over them'

Former German international and Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has been severely critical of Erling Haaland, his father and his agent Mino Raiola as they seek to engineer a move away from Borussia Dortmund for the player.

Signed by the German club from RB Salzburg in late 2019, it never appeared likely that Erling Haaland would see out the four-and-a-half year contract that he initially signed.

After taking to life in the Bundesliga quite handily, Haaland's father Alf-Inge and the player's agent Mino Raiola gathered headlines as they visited Spain's two biggest clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona during the week to organise a potential move for the Norwegian striker.

Although the German outlet BILD have reported that Dortmund gave the green light for this series of meetings to take place, Dietmar Hamann was less than impressed.

"It's the most important game of the season," Hamann told Sky Germany, Dortmund losing 2-1 to Frankfurt at home and falling seven points shy of Germany's top-4, "and you are not able to address this behaviour because you are afraid to upset the player.

"Dortmund should think about why the players are always walking all over them. They lack leadership there."

Haaland

Due to face Manchester City in a Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday night, Haaland's future at the club is likely to remain the source of endless discussion until a decision is clear.

With most of Europe's elite clubs likely to possess some interest in the prolific scorer, it remains to be seen what direction his career next takes him.

However, while he remains a Dortmund player the former Liverpool midfielder Hamann would like to see a little more commitment to his current employers.

"The behaviour of Haaland's father and Raiola is unspeakable, disrespectful, a cheek," he said. "If he wants to go, let him go.

"Dortmund paid a lot of money for an 18-year-old, he should be happy that he can play there."
