'Read the papers and you'd think he tried to blow the house down like the big bad wolf'

John Giles believes Louis Van Gaal still thinks that Manchester United are far below the level he expects of them, despite a six-match winning run.

The Reds have enjoyed an upturn in results but performances have not always been convincing.

John highlighted Man United's win over Liverpool last Sunday.

"I think that was the case last weekend against Liverpool. They took their chances well but they gave up an awful lot of chances so [Van Gaal] wouldn't be happy with that. What you want to do is give up few chances, but they're a long, long way short of where Van Gaal wants them to be," said John, who still expects United to make it into the Top Four.

However, he still thinks the defence is disorganised, regardless of the injury situation.

As for Liverpool, John thought they were "terrible" at Old Trafford.

"I thought the two teams on Sunday were poor," the Leeds legend concluded, adding that Liverpool were not impressive defensively against Championship side Bournemouth in the 3 - 1 League Cup win.

But he thinks it is "unfair" and "unjust" to be talking about Brendan Rodgers potentially being sacked.

John also turned his attention to the tabloid story about Roy Keane visiting the home of Tom Cleverley, allegedly to confront the Aston Villa midfielder.

Manager Paul Lambert addressed that situation today and John thinks it can be hard to get to the truth behind these situations.

"The way you read the paper this morning, you'd think he was trying to blow the house down like the big bad wolf at the gate," said John.

But he does not think events at Villa will have a positive effect on his managerial future.

John went on to give his impressions of Graeme Souness in his prime, after the former Liverpool great had talked about facing Giles during our Drogheda Roadshow.
