England goalkeeper Fraser Forster has joined Southampton from Celtic for €12.5 million. The transfer fee makes Forster the sixth most expensive goalkeeper of all time.
Forster is the fifth singing made by the south coast club this summer and goes some way to filling the hole left by a string of big name departures, including the departure of manager Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham.
The 26 year old joins following his inclusion in England’s World Cup squad and a string of impressive performances for the Glasgow side in the Champions League in recent seasons. During his time at Parkhead Forster won three SPL titles and two Scottish Cups. Forster set a Celtic record for consecutive league clean sheets last year, going 13 games without conceding.
Forster told the official club website: "I really want to thank the Club and the Celtic fans for all they have given me over the past four years. It has been a wonderful honour to play for one of the world's great football clubs and I wish everyone at Celtic and the supporters every success for the future.
“I have received tremendous support during my time at the Club and it has been a brilliant experience being part of a squad which has won titles and trophies and taken part in the Champions League.
“I know the Club wanted me to stay, and I know the Club has done everything they possibly can to keep me, but I felt now was the right time for a new challenge in the English Premier League."
