When Eder left Swansea City on loan in January, no-one batted an eyelid.
And rightfully so because in his 15 games for the Premier League club after signing for £5 million from SC Braga (for whom he had featured in the Champions League), he didn't manage a single goal.
Indeed, his 13 Premier League appearances, he managed just four shots. Only one was on target!
So off he went to French club Lille where he scored a respectable six goals in 13 Ligue 1 games and earned himself a permanent deal.
Yet the same fans in France could not have imagined that he would be the man to sink Les Bleus hopes in the final of Euro 2016.
Epitomising the underdog spirit that Portugal possessed en route to an unlikely triumph, the forward had had an effort saved by Hugo Lloris earlier in the game.

But he showed power and poise before unleashing the shot that would give his nation a first ever major tournament win and also lay the ghosts of Euro 2004 to rest.
But as a player born in Portugal's former African colony of Guinea-Bissau, Eder represents that side of the Portuguese side like fellow Bissau-Guineaan like Danilo, and also exemplified by Angola-born William Carvalho and Nani and Renato Sanches who are of Cape Verdian origin.
But in 50 years when you get a trivia question about the man who won Portugal's first ever major title, remember it's a four letter word.
