Dundalk players dominate the Soccer Republic Team of the Year

After winning the Premier Division for the third season in a row, Dundalk have dominated the Soccer Republic Team of the Year with eight players included.

Selected by the RTE show's pundits. the Derry City duo of goalkeeper Ger Doherty and midfielder Aaron McEniff, along with Cork City striker Seanie Maguire were the only non-Dundalk players to make the grade.

Despite conceding five goals more than second-placed Cork City, the Dundalk back-four of  Sean Gannon, Brian Gartland, Andy Boyle and Dane Massey were all named in the team.

They back four were joined in midfield by Ronan Finn, Stephen O'Donnell and Daryl Horgan, with Dave McMillian leading the line up front.

Speaking on Monday night's Soccer Republic, former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr said that Dundalk's was unlucky not to make the team. The Cork City duo of Alan Bennett and Greg Bolger were also mentioned as another duo who were unlucky not to make the final cut.

In a similar way to The Sunday Game's hurling and football Teams of the Year, it is sure to cause plenty of debate among League of Ireland fans.
