Delaney says Solskjaer doesn't command the United dressing room: "He looks very unsure of himself"

Former Republic of Ireland international Damien Delaney says Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not the strongest personality in the club's dressing room.

Delaney also threw wind to the fact that he believes Solskjaer is tactically inept, stating that he doesn't believe there is any direction for United's players.

The former Crystal Palace defender joined Saturday's Football Show on Off The Ball.

He says United would immediately improve if they were under the guidance of former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

"There was just 11 players put out on a pitch.

"I'm saying they are not a well-coached team. If Pochettino got in there tomorrow you would automatically start seeing things, and you could see where he was going."

Solskjaer's side is currently without Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba due to injury. Delaney believes the United boss will have problems controlling the latter when he returns from ankle surgery.

He says Solskjaer isn't the most prominent figure in the United dressing room. Something he thinks that is lacking at the Lancashire club.

"I definitely don't think he could manage any personalities, really. It'll be a good test for him when Pogba gets fit, and gets back in the team - I think he is a little bit of a character but my opinion is that the manager has to be the biggest personality in the changing room, has to be the biggest character; the strongest character.

The Cork man also thinks the 1999 European Cup winner's demeanour is weak in front of media and fans alike. He questioned the Norwegian's conviction as a manager.

"When you look at someone like Solskjaer, even when you're watching him in interviews. He looks very unsure of himself. He doesn't look very strong in his conviction of what his beliefs are,' added Delaney.

Nine-time capped Delaney thinks the players lack respect for their manager, stating that he would run riot if he was managed by the Norwegian.

"He talks about being in the right direction but it just doesn't add up, for me.

"I mean, if I was playing for him or if he was in one of the squads I was in - the players would absolutely run riot. They would be all over the man."
