Christian Eriksen signs for Brentford

Christian Eriksen is back in football seven months after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The midfielder has signed for Brentford until the end of the season.

Eriksen has been out of the game since collapsing during Denmark's Euro 2020 clash with Finland last June.

He received treatment on the field, before being taken away to hospital. He has since spent time recuperating.

Having been fitted with an implanted heart device, Eriksen was unable to return to action with his club Inter Milan due to medical rules in Italy.

However, he has passed a medical assessment to join Brentford, where he is reunited with Thomas Frank.

Frank managed Eriksen previously at underage level with Denmark's national teams.

Having starred for Tottenham during a seven-year spell before departing for Italy two years ago, the midfielder's arrival comes as a welcome boost for Brentford.

They are currently 14th in the Premier League - eight points above the drop zone.

“I am looking forward to working with Christian again," Frank said.

"It has been a while since I last coached him, and a lot has happened since then. Christian was 16 at the time and has become one of the best midfield players to appear in the Premier League.

"He has also won trophies all over Europe and become the star of the Danish national team.

“We have taken an unbelievable opportunity to bring a World Class player to Brentford.

He hasn’t trained with a team for seven months but has done a lot of work on his own.

"He is fit but we will need to get him match fit and I am looking forward to seeing him work with the players and staff to get back towards his highest level."

Eriksen had been training with Ajax in a bid to stay fit, having left Inter Milan before Christmas.
